Episode 18: What makes Whistler, Whistler? (with Feet Banks)
When the mayor of Whistler asked me to be on his podcast about what makes Whistler Whistler, I had to say yes.
Firstly because it’s cool that the mayor of a town even has a podcast and takes the time to have in-depth conversations with community members (I no longer live in Whistler but it’s where i grew up and do much of my work, i’m still very connected to it and consider it a home).
Secondly, Jack is a friend and a decent guy and I will always help a friend if i can (and so should you!).
And finally, because the community of Whistler is in a dangerous place these days, with overtourism causing a myriad of problems—from traffic jams, to ridiculous rental rates, to the devaluation of the very experience/vibe that makes the place so amazing. So, as one of Whistler’s old guard and ex-enfant terrible, i still feel a duty to be contrarian to the way things are going there, but with a dose of constructive advice and, hopefully, helpful opinion.
Anyhow, this is up because i don’t have any of my own podcasts recorded yet. I’m working on it though….
