Make Your Own Damn Movie: Secrets of a Renegade Director by Lloyd Kaufman
Book of the week is sold as a “ step-by-step how to” for unsuccessful filmmakers to get less unsuccessful, and I guess it is that, but the real value is the inspiration to be gleaned from the life stories of Lloyd Kaufman, the reigning king of b-grade at its highest level and the genius behind Troma films (if you’re old enough you will remember seeing the box for The Toxic Avenger at the video store you know what I mean.)
With chapter titles like “Raising Money or Mastering the Art of Fellatio” and “How to Simulate a Violent Death and Stay Out of Jail” this one does have good tips, but just the tips won’t get you far, you need the passion to make your own damn movie!
